Nancy and the Drew Crew continue their exhausting quest to fight death. This time the team finds themselves splitting up to accomplish their separate goals.

Ace requests the help Carson to collect the dyybuk box he was able to track down, but there is a small catch. He needs Carson to pose as Hudson lawyer in order to procure the box. Carson thinks its bad idea and somehow Ace talked him to bringing along Ryan Hudson. The road trip is one of the highlight of the episodes. But, Ace soon regrets asking the two to come along as they spend the time arguing about Nancy and coffee. Ryan it seems rather loves his coffee and Ace got his order wrong. Dude he is not your personal assistant. The two dads then get into verbal match over parenting style. I really don’t think Ryan is one to talk. He is not exactly known for responsibility., but it’s also not his fault that he didn’t get the chance to step up for Nancy. On the flipside, Carson had no idea that he was her father. He probably suspected Nancy and Ryan were brother and sister. Ace’s attempts at playing peacemaker aren’t the best either. You need someone who can crack a whip not a soft-spoken maybe stoner. Eventually, they get to the museum and Carson attempts to rent it, but its out of his price range so Daddy Warbuck’s steps in with his check book. Problem solved. Ryan apparently has his uses.

Nancy and Bess start hunting for clues on where to find Odette’s possession for the ritual that they want to perform later. They find themselves crashing a historical tour. The tour guide who is Hannah’s assistant is a GRADE A academic douche. They end up setting him straight about the facts regarding the founding of Horseshoe Bay much to the chagrin of Aristotle. Even his name is pretentious. They end up going to another location that belonged to the Marvin’s–Damn this family was just straight up evil. They end up in a basement and Nancy and Bess end up being scared stupid but not before she heard something useful. Long story short, they discover that Marvin’s second wife Agnus was not insane, but very intelligent. She left a cipher which the apparently Ryan helps her decode. Wow, turns out Ryan is useful for not just his money. I actually think he and Nancy have a lot in common. But, he is so used to skating by on his good luck’s and bottomless wallet that he has never bothered to untap the nosy side of his personality. Something apparently Nancy inherited. God, if Lucy and Ryan had raised her, they would have annoyed that town to death. They would have been the nosiest rich people known to man. The moment between the two was sad because you could tell he really wants to know his daughter. Ryan ends up giving Carson a heads up that something off in with Nancy. It seems DNA is giving him supernatural powers too. The way Riley and Scott play off each other is amazing to watch and Kennedy/Riley have an excellent rapport.

Meanwhile, George is trying to get her younger sister to learn the ropes at the CLAW so that she can take over in the case of her passing. But, the poor thing is not equipped for it. George starts to have a bit of mini-meltdown and as usual Nick is there to be her rock. During their conversation, he ends up confessing his love for her and the moment is poignant and sweet. He just wants her to know that she is loved and doesn’t expect anything in return. Man Mama Millie raised this boy right. It’s hard not to sigh at these moments. It was a big difference from the awkward exchange he had with Nancy earlier in the episode. She is basically just now realizing that she was the world’s crappiest girlfriend. Although, girlfriend is kind of a stretch. They were more like two ships passing in the night for convenient booty calls, but Nick definitely wanted more. But, the sadness in Nancy’s eyes really speaks to the regret at the way she treated him.

Speaking of romance, remember when I asked about Lisbeth and like an apparition not named Odette she appeared. Her and Bess had a sweet moment and the latter promised to meet the parents. Bess ended up chickening out due to the threat of death and all. She didn’t want to lie to her and she knew she really had no choice but to do that. Her little conversation with Ace at the end was really sweet. The friendship between Ace and Bess is really nice because its one of the few moments she dials down the hyper. Speaking of her friendly peacemaker, he was writing a sad Dear Daddy letter in case he passed which was so somber.

Finally, the crew meet up after Nancy was able to uncover Odette’s necklace. The scene was spooky because the Aglaeca was just hovering over them. We saw her start to change back to her human form for a hot minute before she destroyed the box, but not before they realized they could hurt her. I for one cannot wait until this rag-tag team misfits defeat the Aglaeca because I’m bored already. The mystery is good and were it not for the pandemic it probably wouldn’t feel like its dragging so much. Despite that, this episode really needed more of the group together rather than them off in their separate stories. The show excels when you have more group scenes. While the mystery seems like its dragging, it really has only been like five episodes plus the worlds longest hiatus. Odette the spooky sea-witch is really one of the better supernatural beings I’ve seen on mystery shows. Why is this on the CW again?
